Position Description

SRC, Inc. is currently seeking an entry-level optical engineer with a strong systems background and electro-optical, infrared or laser sensor experience to lead the development of innovative counter UAS sensors in our Syracuse, N.Y. office. This candidate will be at the forefront to lead the integration of next generation optical systems and provide direction for optical and laser sensor evaluation, integration and test for existing and future programs.


  • Support engineering team from detail design through integration and test
  • Assist with design reviews and program reviews, assessing technical progress and tradeoffs
  • Decompose mission requirements to sensor specifications
  • Support sensor analysis, simulations, trade studies, evaluation, integration and test
  • Meet allocated program cost and schedule commitments
  • Represent the organization in assigned marketing and business development activities, including proposal development
  • Contribute to white paper and proposal efforts
  • Perform market research of optical sensors currently available in industry and provide input for specific sensor selection (down to manufacturer)
  • Support test events and customer demonstrations

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, applied physics or optics is required
  • Hands-on design experience in the development of optical sensors typically used in military or civilian applications preferred
  • Strong technical background with experience in a subset of the following preferred:
    • IR camera technology (NIR/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR)
    • Image processing concepts for automated target identification algorithm development
    • Hyperspectral imaging technology
    • Atmospheric modeling concepts for optical technology
    • UAS image processing, such as orthrectification, image stitching, orthomosaics, etc
    • Hyperspectral data analysis software such as ENVI and HyperCube
    • Real-time processing of hyperspectral data
    • Algorithms for anomaly detection within hyperspectral imagery
  • Familiar with algorithms for object classification/identification from hyperspectral data
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Will work with advanced technology development contracts with government research labs (e.g., DARPA, AFRL, NRL, ONR, I2WD) is highly desired
  • Some travel is necessary to support customers, tests and demonstrations
